Gather the Right Packing Supplies
Before you begin, stock up on heavy-duty boxes, bubble wrap, unprinted newsprint paper, packing tape, and micro-foam sheets. Standard newspaper can leave ink stains on delicate surfaces, so stick to clean packing paper.
Layer the Bottom of Every Box
Always create a cushion at the bottom of your box before adding delicate items. Crumple several sheets of packing paper or place a two-inch layer of bubble wrap at the base to absorb shocks during transit.
Wrap Items Individually
Never let fragile items touch each other inside a box. Wrap plates individually, stacking them vertically like record albums rather than flat to prevent cracking. Fill empty spaces inside cups and glasses with paper to reinforce their structure.
Fill All Empty Spaces
Movement inside the box is the primary cause of breakage. Once your items are packed, fill any remaining gaps with crumpled paper, foam peanuts, or towels. Give the box a gentle shake; if you hear anything shifting, add more padding.
Mark Boxes as Fragile
Use a bold red marker to clearly label all sides of the box with “FRAGILE” and “THIS SIDE UP.” This alerts your moving crew to handle these specific boxes with extra care.
